What DC Can Authenticate
DC ONCA authenticates documents notarized by a District of Columbia notary and certified documents issued or signed by a DC government agency. Greenhouse reviews the document and destination before coordinating the correct DC certificate.
Common DC Files
- DC-notarized affidavits and powers of attorney
- DC government-issued certified records
- DC birth, marriage, or other eligible records
- DC police clearances where properly issued
- Academic or private documents notarized by a DC notary
- Corporate or legal documents properly notarized in DC
DC vs. Federal Documents
DC ONCA does not authenticate federal documents such as FBI background checks or federal citizenship records. Those files belong in the U.S. Department of State federal authentication process rather than the DC government process.
Hague and Non-Hague Routes
For Hague destinations, DC can issue an apostille for qualifying DC documents. For non-Hague destinations, DC issues the appropriate foreign certificate and the file may then proceed to the U.S. Department of State and embassy legalization.
